Last fall, America’s favorite twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen spent three days hanging out in Union Square handing out free cupcakes and sampling free garments from their latest fashion project Olsenboye. Well, it's February and just as promised by the girls the collection is finally here.

Olsenboye is the twins’ newest line of affordable clothing sold exclusively at JC Penny. What makes this line so different from the twins previous efforts (remember that Walmart line?) is that nothing is priced over $50; so to the millions of girls who want to wear clothes approved by the sisters can do so at a reasonable price. Olsenboye which is the girls Norwegian last name; has been highly anticipated since the announcement from the girls in late October.
The pint sized sisters already have two high end lines The Row and Elizabeth and James but their motive for their newest project was evidently clear. “We just wanted to offer great style for a great price and great quality,” says Ashley in an interview with USA Today. “We also want to give great classic pieces and make them fun as well” she continues.
Ashley Brown, an eleventh grader at the Washington Irving High School in New York City is already a fan of the freshman line. Since the clothes hit racks earlier this month, Brown has already sampled a number of items. “I bought a graphic tee and some cute motorcycle boots, and I spent about $40. That’s amazing.” Even mega shoe creator Steve Madden has joined on the twins’ bandwagon. All the shoes produced in the line was designed by the shoe man himself so fans of the Steve Madden shoe line might be able to score a bargain by purchasing some Olsenboye shoes or accessories.
Jasmine Arroyo, another eleventh grader at Washington Irving has also admired the Olsen’s choice for affordable clothing for the fans. “I like the fact that Mary-Kate and Ashley created a brand that I can afford” Arroyo says. “I think they have incredible style and to be able to wear their fashions at half the price is awesome.” she continues. The girls make sure to combine both trendy and classic pieces in this collection. For the classic, the jean jacket can go no wrong; and for the trendy the cropped tops and mini skirts are the absolute must-haves.
The debut Spring 2010 collection pays a homage to the twins’ brief years at NYU. Each item is inspired by New York architecture or fashions worn by locals. Every season starting in Fall ‘10 will feature a new city with a new inspiration. Los Angeles and London are just two of the cities the girls have already considered and because this is an Olsen creation, the sky’s the limit to what cities will follow thereafter.Perhaps the only big downfall to such a great idea is the choices (or lack thereof). The Olsens are teen icons and for the girls who think they can pay under 50 bucks to dress like the Olsens are out of luck. The cute tees and jeans are perfect for the average girl but the line doesn't reflect neither Mary-Kate or Ashley's personal styles. Where are the huge glasses and oversized cardigans people?
But the line is intended for girls under 19, so don't expect anything besides sneakers, design denim and crazy colors. But it is the Olsen twins and this duo might actually be brainstorming about creating a collection for the rest of us that doesn’t fit into that age group. We’ll just keep crossing your fingers and hope their next destination will be London.
I really like the tone of this. and the pictures are great. But you need to learn to link. The one you have is dead. Here are some places, you should hav linked:
