So the geniuses at KFC cooked up a new recipe that screams heart attack. Starting Monday April 12th, the Colonel chicken chain will be selling their highly UN-anticipated new sandwich the Double Down, and it can all be yours for just $4.99.
The Double Down isn’t your normal chicken sandwich. In fact it’s not really a sandwich if you ask me. There’s no bread and it’s replacement is two fried chicken fillets. If that doesn’t do it for you, he “sandwich” also consists of two slices of Monterey Jack and pepper Jack cheese, two slices of bacon, and the Colonel’s special sauce. (Whatever this is?)
The Double Down hasn’t been getting much favorable reviews and it shouldn’t. Besides looking disgusting, it will expand your waistline with a whooping 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and 1,380 milligrams of sodium. And for the health nuts, there is also a grilled chicken version that carries more sodium and just 60 less calories. In the midst of summer-like temperatures we’ve been experiencing lately and the passing of health care reform bill, this sandwich couldn’t have come at a better time.
What makes the double down even more disgusting is KFC’s marketing approach. In all advertisements and commercials, they repress the slogan “so much 100-per-cent premium chicken, we didn't have room for a bun." Just last year, they received praise for their efforts of launching healthier meal options like the grilled chicken and vegetables. Sorry KFC, I’ll think I have to pass on this one.
Ariel, again, good topic and tone. But you need to work on your links. For example you have a link on "health care reform bill" but it doesn't go to the actual bill; it goes to an article about that. Do you understand what i'm getting at: the words from which you link ought to be as close as possible representations of what you're linking to.Also, it feels a bit random what you're linking to. An article here and there, from KFC directly. Again, I'd really like to see a more serious survey of what else has been written about this and the whole phenomenon of how horribly americans eat - bring us some of those.
